Augmented Reality (AR) is a technology enriching the real world with digital information and media, such as 3D models and videos, overlaying in real-time the camera view of your smartphone, tablet, PC or connected glasses.
Thus comes, Magic Leap!
It’s an idea based in the belief that people should not have to choose between technology or safety, technology or privacy, the virtual world or the real world.
Magic Leap created something new. They call it a Dynamic Digitized Lightfield Signal™ (you can call it a Digital Lightfield™). It is biomimetic, meaning it respects how we function naturally as humans (we are humans after all, not machines).
Magic Leap’s technology goes well beyond virtual or augmented reality and can superimpose objects that truly look real onto the world.
Magic Leap declined to comment on what might happen down the road. Nonetheless, the investment in Magic Leap appears to be Google betting on augmented reality as the future of computing, pitting it in a fight against virtual reality competitors. Eventually, it’ll likely be facing off against Facebook’s Oculus Rift
Some of the world’s largest technology players have leapt at the chance to back Florida-based augmented-reality startup Magic Leap, with Google leading a $542 million Series B financing round, and Qualcomm also pitching in.
Magic Leap should be launching a product for consumers “relatively soon.” There’s no stated target date for now, though, and it sounds like it still has some development to do.
In the Press Release:
“Magic Leapʼs mission is to develop and commercialize what we believe will be the most natural and human-friendly wearable computing interface in the world. What is remarkable is how well the human body and mind respond when technology respects biology, so truly magical experiences become possible. In this new world of the intimate relationship between computing and human sensory systems, Magic Leap is bending its proprietary technology to meet the very human needs of our future users and co-creators,” said Rony Abovitz, President, CEO & Founder of Magic Leap, Inc. “Our technology exists to unlock the creative spark found in all of us.”

The video doesn’t explain anything about augmented reality (AR).
